Now just how lucky is he!

A Queensland drag racer has walked away unscathed from a fiery 500km/h crash.

Driver Phil Lamattina's dragster split in half and erupted in flames 4.68s into a race at last night's Australian Nationals at Willowbank Raceway.

Witnesses told Auto Racing Daily Lamattina was flung into the air in the crash "after his dragster frame appeared to crumble".

    Rally champ McRae feared dead

Pieces of the destroyed dragster hurtled down the track after the explosion as horrified spectators jumped to their feet.

The Top Fuel driver spent the night in hospital, but not before he drove past a relieved race crowd waving as if to prove he really did survive, Racing Daily said.

That is one lucky dude. I just watched the video of the crash, and that shit was insane. The report said all he got was a cut on his finger (and probably a load in his shorts).

He is real lucky, he was on the news the next night as if nothing had happened lol, hardly a scratch on him.

He owes his life to the strict safety rules in racing.
    Watch a few Nascar races.
They have bad wrecks all the time and 95% of the drivers walk away,
    uninjured or with minor injures.
