A boy who helped torture a schoolmate over six hours, whipping him with a thorny branch, stoning him and digging him a grave should face detention, a Perth court was told.

The 13-year-old appeared in the Perth Children's Court on Monday having pleaded guilty to taking part, with four co-accused, in a sustained attack on a 13-year-old fellow schoolboy on June 22, 2007.

Prosecutor Joanne Andretich told the court's president, Denis Reynolds, the six-hour attack went well beyond bullying.

"This is a matter where this young boy was tortured for a period of time by five young boys who used their strength as a group to put him through an extremely serious and humiliating process," Ms Andretich said.

She said the victim was walking to the school library early on June 22 when he was dragged, by the 12-year-old alleged ringleader of the five bullies, first to a school toilet then into bushland where the boys had a makeshift hut.

Under threat of assault, they forced their weeping victim to carry logs to extend the hut and pulled his underpants up between his buttocks before hanging him from a branch by his undies, she said.

"The complainant commenced crying and due to his fear, urinated in his pants," Ms Andretich said.

She said the victim wet his pants twice during his ordeal.

Ms Andretich said the 13-year-old boy who was on the stand had urinated in the victim's lunchbox, whipped him with a thorny branch until he bled and dug a grave for the weeping boy.

One of the other boys also told their victim to pull down his pants so a stick could be inserted in his anus. The terrified boy refused.

Ms Andretich said one of the other co-accused had picked up an axe and told their victim they would force him to sleep in the hut, then come and kill him later that night.

The victim eventually ran away, as his schoolmates stoned him.

The 13-year-old accused boy's lawyer, Curt Hofmann, told the court his client had admitted most of the facts but said they had bullied the boy for only an hour, not six.

Mr Hofmann said his client told him all the boys had been friendly until the afternoon when the victim became upset during horseplay.

Rather than stopping in the face of the boy's distress, his schoolmates stepped up the bullying, Mr Hofmann said.

Ms Andretich called for immediate detention for the 13-year-old accused.

Mr Reynolds ordered a psychological report and adjourned the matter until October 22.

The boy's four co-accused, who have yet to plead, appeared in the court on Monday and were ordered to reappear on October 25.

    That's what I was thinking.

Seriously, there is no amount of detention that could make this right. I think the parents who raised these monsters should be forced to set up a trust fund for the victim's college. If he choses not to go to college, he should recieve it and any interest it has earned at the age of 18.

The bullies should have to go to counseling for an evaluation. Something isn't right at home, or something. There is no way that the victim should have to go to school and see them every day though. I don't know what you can do with kids that age, but they have to get them away from this kid. I'm at a loss.

The kids need something, makes you wonder what the parents get up to to allow there child run this kind of muck....

But reading this article very well reminds me of the movie Lord of the Flies, who here has seen that movie, man seeing what those kids do in that movie freaks me straight out, wasn't it piggie n they rolled a rock on top of his head i think that was the sickest part of that movie, n as Surf said abt the logs and shit im sure they made other boys carry logs to make the hut , i havent seen that movie for a while now but i wouldn't mind watching it again lol.....

Sickest ass movie i have ever seen with young kids involved, it makes you want to understand them more.

I think these kids turned out the way they did, for the same reason that Lord of Flies turned out the way it did. It's a lack of adult influence in their lives. I'm sure there are parents when this kid goes home, but too many parents today ignore their kids. They let them do whatever they want. TV and video games babysit the kids, while they live their lives the way that they choose. I refuse to believe that a child with strong adult role models, can act this way.

Parents try to hard to be thier kids "friends" by allowing them to do whatever they please. Im glad my parents have restrctions on me.

If I had done something like that as a kid.
My parents woulda beat me half to death,
and made me apologize, in person, to the kid and his parents.
