Police in Perth have charged a 31-year-old woman with abducting a three-day-old baby from Perth's King Edward Memorial Hospital For Women.

The woman was arrested in Northam, east of Perth, this morning, with the three-day-old baby girl on a bus heading to Kalgoorlie.

The woman, from Kambalda, had approached the mother in hospital the previous night asking if she could take a photograph of the baby.

The mother left the room and when she returned the woman and the baby were missing.

The woman has been charged with child stealing and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
