New sticky for web browser suggestions, comments, and questions. :)

Recommended browsers for Major OS (Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, Android, iOS)
    • Opera Browser (Link)* See Below, may require second thought!
      • Based on Chromium Browser.
      • Fast and friendly interface.
      • Built-in adblocker and VPN.
    • Chromium Browser (All Major OS)
      • Open Source.
      • Based on Google Chrome, favored by web developers, fast and light.
The above are also available in your Smart Phone's application store.

    Recommended browsers that are OS-exclusive
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 11+ (Link)
    • Apple Safari (Link)
    • *NIX Midori (Link)
    • Debian IceWeasel (Link)
    • GNU IceCat (Link)
    Browsers with a neutral recommendation
Non-recommended browsers, use of these is not suggested
    • Mozilla Firefox
      • Supported by adware.
      • Sends your browsing habits to advertisers.
      • The Mozilla company does not support freedom of speech, thought, or action.
      • The will and direction of the project is easily swayed by inequalist extremist groups.
      • It's also the least secure web browser and losing market share.
    Suggested Add-Ons
    * Use one or the other, not both at the same time. Opera 37+ Has a built-in adblocker, however it's never a bad idea to use a backup solution.

    Super fun fact:

If you go into opera://flags you can find and enable proprietary codecs. With that, you can play all YouTube videos (and all HTML5 videos in general) without needing flash! :D

    how do i do that?

after more than two years i believe Opera is the best browser out there. it's kinda hard to get that through other people's heads. their loss.

In your address bar, type opera://flags and press enter. Scroll through the options until you find something called "Proprietary Codecs". Enable it, then restart Opera.

It's currently disabled by default in the stable branch, but it's enabled in the developer branch, so it will be enabled by default on the stable branch soon regardless. This is just a way to use it sooner.

Finally, go to https://www.youtube.com/html5 and make sure that you're opted in for YouTube's HTML5 player.

It seems like my beloved Opera is starting to become shitty. :(

I guess I'll have to start making preparations for moving to Vivaldi.

I'm just upset that they removed the flag that allows you to disable Opera Sync. Now I have this useless icon.

They also added another permission that seems useless (MIDI access) and seemingly reset another permission (Handlers).

My real gripe is, though, that they pasted a large advertisement for a VPN service in the Privacy settings. For now you can disable it with a flag.

Even though Opera is evil incarnate for being owned by the Chinese now, they just released Opera 37 with a built-in adblocker which is pretty cool to be honest.

Even though I'm wary of this whole Opera-being-sold-to-the-chinese thing, I've re-added it to the suggested list. The built-in adblocking is just too good to pass up. Not to mention that in the next version they will offer a free VPN service.
