Dropping the bomb. Should America apologize?

The world should have no regrets.

I have a problem with this. What happend at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was actually a war crime by definition.

The U.S. Government Justified it by saying it Saved American Lives, and The Japanese were Fanatical and would fight to the end.

Of course they would, they were facing an invasion of their sovereign land, and They have a right to defend it... even though they were the aggressors.

Dropping a bomb of mass destruction that killed indiscriminately id criminal. Especially on a country that was completely wiped out alerady.

There was no more food, clean water, nor fuel left in Japan, by the time The U.S. decided to drop the bomb. and If you are going to invade and occupy a country at least give its citizens a fighting chance.

Killing Babies, Infants, Toddlers, Elderly, teachers, Doctors and nurses with a nuclear bomb is not giving the population a fighting chance. It's Murder.

    In My Opinion:
The Following People should be tried and Convicted for Murder and Branded a war Criminal.
    1. Harry S. Truman (President)
    2. Henry A. Wallace (Vice President)
    3. General Henry H. Arnold (Officer Commanding the 20th Air Force)
    4. General Curtis LeMay (Officer commanding XXI Bomber Command Also responsible for the Firebombing of Tokyo)
    5. Brigadier General Paul W. Tibbets Jr. (Commanding Officer of 509th Composite Group and Pilot of the Enola gay that Bombed Hiroshima)
    6. Major General Charles W. Sweeney (Flew the Mission that Bombed Nagasaki)
    7. J. Robert Oppenheimer (The Scientist in charge of the Manhattan project)
Theres more, but those are the Main Players

They had their fighting chance, it's about winning and ending the war as soon as possible. How would the American public and the allies reacted if there was a bomb that could have ended the war but was not used, resulting in innumerable ally casualties? Would it have been better to wait and let the Soviets open second front on Japan and start an invading from the north and if so, do you think they would return any conquered Japanese territory.? The Japanese military had a famously poor record on how they treated the civilian populations under their control. Let's not revise history here. If Japan's will to continue to fight was gone they should had surrendered sooner.

The Collateral damage was to high, And of course Roosevelt wanted in on the war from the beginning, the only way in was to coax the Japanese into attacking their fleet in Pearl Harbor, Thats why the Entire Fleet air arm with all it's Carriers were deployed on "Opersational Excersise" a week before the attack.

Believe me I'm not a fan of the Japanese especially during their Expansion period. If they had their way I would be speaking Japanese instead of Thai today, In Thailand during the war they enforced a Cultural Ban on anything Culturally Thai, and dont forget they had their POW camps set up here, the Worst in recorded History.

But using evil, to destroy evil, does not vindicate a crime. Murder is still murder, and can never be justified, even if it's government sanctioned.

Even as a Soldier during the Border war in South Africa, there were things the S.A. Government ordered us to do, which I viewed as a war crime, and Flat out refused to carry out the order. a Battle field is one thing , but Civilians and Non Combatants, especially children are a definite NO.

The proven muscle for any modern navy pre 1941 was the warship and those warships with their destroyer escorts were all stationed at Pearl Harbor. Carriers on the other had never been used in combat and were just oddities during that time. Keep in mind that only one ship had ever been hit from a ship launched plane prior to the start of the war. That's the reason the Japanese focused on the battleships in order the cripple the pacific fleet. , Gotta feed the kids, Love chatting with you Afro. You would get along with my dad, argue but still get along.

    I love these Debates :)

I read Somewhere that Admiral Yamamoto was banking on the Carrier Fleet to be Docked at Pearl. I'll have to find the reference to confirm though.
